Leeds appoint Jesse Marsch as Marcelo Bielsa’s successor

Premier League side Leeds United on Monday unveiled Jesse Marsch as their new head coach.

The former RB Leipzig coach was named Marcelo Bielsa’s successor after agreeing to a contract until 2025.

“I know what a big club Leeds is, I know ex-players who have played here and I’ve watched this club from afar for many years and I’m really honored and excited to be here,” Marsch said.

“One of the things I love about this team right now is their commitment no matter how difficult the games have been, to play until the end, fight for each other, to never stop and to give everything to each other at every moment.”

He added, “My style of play, my aggressiveness and the desire I have for teams to be intensive and to run and make things difficult for the opponent fits with what has been done here for three-and-a-half years.”

The 48-year-old American coach will make his debut Saturday when Leeds visit Leicester City.

His arrival comes a day after Bielsa’s dismissal. The Argentine, who was appointed in 2018 and helped guide the West Yorkshire club back to the Premier League, oversaw his final match Saturday when Leeds fell to Tottenham Hotspur.
