Roger Federer to skip Australian Open and not return until mid-2022

The Roger Federer global fan club may have been waiting with baited breadth for his return to the Grand Slam circuit with the Australian Open in January 2023, but the tennis legend has decided to skim the yearโ€™s opening slam.

 

Federer who is recovering from a tenuous knee surgery and has been spotted at high profile events sometimes with and sometimes without his lag brace has reportedly recovers well from the surgery.

 

 

According to report in Swiss media,ย  Federer will miss the Australian Open in January and is unlikely to return to competition until mid-2022.ย  The 20-times Grand Slam champion said he would be able to resume running in January and return to training on the court in March or April.

“I need to be very patient and give my knee the time to heal. The next few months will be crucial,” Federer said in an interview carried by several Swiss media outlets.

Federer had two knee operations in 2020 that kept him out of the tour for more than a year.
